Smart Tags / RFID
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the wireless use of electromagnetic fields to transfer data, for the purposes of automatically identifying and tracking tags attached to objects. The tags contain electronically stored information.
- RFID technology is already in many supply chains. Unlike a bar codes that must be seen and scanned an RFID tag can be read no matter where it has been placed. RFID tags are also programmable so the user can tailor what information to capture. RFID tags can assist with inventory management both inside a warehouse and at a retail site.
- RFID allows traceability throughout the entire supply chain. Example: Retailers can trace the source of a product. If there is a product recall those same RFID can provide info as to what locations have that specific product in house.
- If you have ever participated in a 5K, marathon or other kind of race the shoe tag worn is an RFID tag.
